Situated in the middle of the sarover Shri Durgiana Temple is an important and world-renowned religious place for the Hindus in the holy city of Amritsar in the Punjab province of northern India, where thousands of devotees come daily to worship and pay obeisance. The bridge provides an approach to the temple. The temple tank is 541 ft X 432 ft and 20 ft deep, which according to government records was built here in 16th century. Shri Durgiana Temple is named after Maa Durga, because in ancient times, when soldiers had to go for war, they used to worship Maa Durga before that and sought her blessings for victory.

The foundation stone of Shri Durgiana Temple was laid by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya in 1924 on the day of Ganga Dashami (Dussehra). The temple existed before it was rebuilt in 1921. It was confirmed by the record of Amritsar municipality gazette of 1893 which tells about the Durgiana Sarover and the Devi Dwara surrounding it which was thronged by Hindu pilgrims.

Domes of the main temple along with the upper side of the walls adjacent to it are carved with Gold. 12X12 feet huge silver carved and engraved door at the main entrance ((Darshni Deori ) together with all the doors of the main mandir glorifies the sanctity of the temple in the image of divine beauty, In the central GARBH GRAH inside the main temple idols of Shri Lakshmi-Narayan in the standng position and on one side of them Shri Ram Darbar and on the other side the idols of Shri Radha-Krishna Ji along with Shri Giriraj Ji Maharaj present a wonderful divine look.

According to religious belief, Maryada Purushottam Lord Rama had visited here during Ashwamedha Yagya. His sons Luv and Kush spent their child-hood with their mother Sita in the ashram of Maharshi Valmiki, Ram Tirtha, which is about 8 km from the temple. Along with this, King Ishvaku, the grandson of the Sun God, performed many sacrifices on this land.

The idea of making Shri Durgiana Temple in the form it is, was the brain-child of Gurshai Mal Kapoor, a great visionary and religious minded person whose statue is installed outside the main entrance of Darshani Deori. There are many proofs in history testifying that this temple was built in the 16th century. It is just half a kilometer away from the railway station and about 1.5 km from the bus stand.
